Meet Mike - Candidate for Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors (Fork Union District)

The Skinny

Mike Goad is a proud husband, father, educator, and community leader. He currently serves as the Academic Dean at Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA) and has served on the Fluvanna County Planning Commission since 2022 as the appointee from the Fork Union District. Mike is currently seeking election to the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors in hopes of serving as an advocate for his fellow community members in the Fork Union District at the highest level of county government.

Shortly after moving to Fork Union nearly a decade ago, Mike met his wife, Kate, a lifelong and third-generation resident of Fork Union. The two married in July of 2017 and recently welcomed their first child, David “Reagan” Goad, into the world. The family of three attends Fork Union Baptist Church and happily resides in the Village of Fork Union.

Mike graduated with honors from Hampden-Sydney College in 2013, where he majored in History, minored in Rhetoric, and served as a Captain on the 2013 Tigers football team. Following his time at Hampden-Sydney, Mike attended Liberty University, where he obtained his MAT in the Spring of 2016 while serving as a first-year instructor at FUMA. Mike is currently pursuing his PhD in Public Policy and is expecting to complete his degree by the Spring of 2025.

Mike began his education career as a substitute teacher in the Spring of 2015 while he was completing his MAT at Liberty. In the Fall of 2015, he began his career at FUMA, serving three years as a middle school English and US History teacher. In 2018, he transitioned to the Upper School where he taught AP U.S. Government and AP U.S. History. Following his lone year in the Upper School, Mike transitioned to his current role as the Academy’s Academic Dean. He has also served the Academy as a debate coach and football coach. Outside of FUMA, Mike spent three semesters from 2018-2019 as a professor at Longwood University.
